The day I went to walking with dinosaurs

On the 3rd of July I went to walking with dinosaurs in Auckland. My mum, my dad and I all hoped off the boat from Wihiki Island and walked to the Victor Arena an we went to the car and I got changed into my good clothes. When we got to the Victor Arena my mum brought me a program and a bag but there was no t-shirts in that store so they told us to go inside to the other shop thats good theres a t-shirt at this store. When we got to the door of the Arena I saw that there were about 8000 seats. So we looked around and my dad found the seats that were ours. We sat in our seats and I looked at the program and the bag it was cool you got stickers and a pad in the bag. I keeped asking my mum and dad what the time was because I was so exited. It started at 3:00 and finished at 4:30. My favorite dinosaurs were Brachiosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and the Stegosaurus. The Brachiosaurus was the tallest of all time it was 22 meters tall (72 feet).

Elli's Beautiful Autumn Poem

For Friday poetry in Week 2, we wrote Autumn poems using a set format. We had to think of 'juicy' adjectives, interesting similes and metaphors and creative words to describe movement.

Elli gained a certificate from the Principal for her Autumn Poem:

Autum
Blazing hot red and orange leaves,
The leaves are smoothly glazing along the dirtiest ground in a huge muddy soily pot.
They fall to the ground gently.
They move softly along the bumpy ground.
Soft, crispy in the sun. Crunchy.
It's like... a leave shower as big as a raindrop.
They are so crunchy that they are easy to rip apart.
The leaves move eit the rattling noises together.
I like the sound of leaves going along the ground.

Red Nose Day Song

You make the whole world smile,
with your little button nose.
Your itty bitty feet and your tiny
little toes.
Even in the still of night when your
a little so and so.
You make the whole world smile.

You make the whole world smile,
when you light up like the sun.
The laughter in your eyes bringing
joy to everyone.
So we will all sing this song,
and we'll beat upon the drum.
You make the whole world smile.

Let love flow through your soul,
Let it in, Let it in
Look into your heart,
come on play your part
Lets begin.

Character Descriptions

We have been learning to write a detailed character description. We chose to describe our principal, Mr Reed. When Room 8 presented the school assembly last week, we created a movie about our descriptions to share with our school.

OUR INQUIRY - IGNITING STAGE
How do the lives of others' differ from ours?

We are viewing a range of clips that show the different lives of people around the world. We watched a clip about a China Sweatshop for the large corporation: Nike. We thought about two questions;

What is their everyday life like?
Would you be smiling if this was your future?

We have also been discussing lately the expectations we have for our future. This is what we came up with:
- not to be controlled or pushed around
- be able to choose my own job, not have it chosen for me
- be a dancer
- go to university and get a degree
- have the opportunity to go do further study
- have enough money to study
- travel the world - go where I want to go
- go to the olympics
- have my own pets
- have my own money in my control
- fast cars
- be able to play sport, play in parks, field
- be an All Black
- have enough food, money to buy food
- spa and swimming pool
- clean and fresh water
- own a house
- have my own clothes,
- keep warm and healthy
- shoes on my feet
- be able to communicate around the world
- be able to buy what I need to live
- drivers license

WOULD YOU BE SMILING IF THIS WAS YOUR FUTURE?
